Attendance
Attendance
Regular attendance is critical for academic success. Students are allowed a maximum of 10(5 per semester) unexcused absences in each year-long class and a maximum of 5 unexcused absences in each semester class. Students may not receive credit seat time in a class if they exceed five days in a semester or ten days in the year. Attendance is verified each period of the day. Please monitor your student's attendance on interim reports and report cards. Please have your student present a parent's note or doctor's excuse to the attendance clerk.
If a child is absent:
Please email our Data Quality/Attendance Clerk, Ms.Jade Dewitt, on the day your child will not attend school. Students must return to school with a medical note or a parent note stating the reason for the absence. If a child is absent for three consecutive days or a total of five days, without a medical note, parents/guardians must complete an Attendance Intervention Plan (AIP) with our Attendance Clerk or the District Office. Please note that attendance is taken during each block.
Make Up Work:
Students are responsible for all work missed during an absence. If you know your child will be out for more than two days, please email your student's teachers to request homework. There is a 24 hour turnaround for requested work. All work during an absence must be made up in a reasonable amount of time.
Early Dismissal:
If your student needs to be released early from school for any reason, he/she must present a note to the front office in the morning. This enables the student to be released from class with a pass at the appropriate time. This is not only a time-saver but prevents the interruption of classroom instruction.
WPM operates under a closed-campus policy. Students must remain on campus from the time they arrive at school until they are properly dismissed. A student may check out through the front office only if a parent, guardian, or approved adult comes to the school prior to 3:00 PM to sign the student out with a valid ID.
